On this car the decals consist of three iterations of the words "Lotus Excel" (positioned on boot and rear quarter panels) and a double pin stripe of unequal widths that run along the car and across the boot, the lower line outlining both front and rear quarters. I have measured the pinstripes in position and they seem to run around the car between 1.5 and 2 cms below the black rubber trim strip. I'm not convinced that these werent all intended to be 1.5cms?
Pinstripes
The upper stripe is 0.455 inches wideUpper strip width on rear quarter panel |
... and the gap between them is 0.144 inches
On the side of the car the upper stripe is positioned 0.458 inches from the bottom of the trim strip (12mm)
Rear Quarters
Trim finishes 1.5cms from the end of the panel and the profile mimics the panel break. The lower line follows the panel break around at a distance of 1.5 - 2 cm from its edge. It does seem that the vertical section is following the panel profile around 2cms distant whereas the lower edge is closer at 1.5cm.
Thin trim line echoes panel profile at a distance of 1.5cm. |
The fine stripe then continues across the rear quarter in front of the wheel and across the bottom of the door to join up with the lower strip in the front quarter.
Rear quarter text
Text is above trim strip, apparently the same size font as that on the boot, and also positioned 2cms up from the trim strip
Letters also 2cm up. |
The pinstripe is below the trim strip and again positioned 1.15cms below the rubber as described above.
Boot:
The double pinstripe runs above the rubber trim at a distance of 2cm. Its in two sections; the left hand length of double stripe is 97cm, the right hand 10 cms. Sandwiched in between is the text.Lower stripe 2 cms above trim strip |

Front quarter
Trim is cut to mirror the panel end profile and again at a distance of 2cm.
