Hi Guys and Gals,
I have now published some 35 posts on my epic struggle with this car... a steep learning curve for me and an education in many things engineering-wise that I should probably have sorted years ago! None-the-less My struggles have attracted 2500 viewers - but not one single comment! I just wondered who you are and why you are interested in my efforts. Come-on guys and gals! Feel free to write! I'm learning as I go so if you know anything better please feel free to let me know!
Cheers all
Mike
Finding my way around a Lotus Excel in need of restoration. This is my record of the project A870UBX. I'm not a mechanic and the processes described are not necessarily recommended. I will accept no responsibility for any losses or damage resulting from following in my footsteps: BUT if you know a better way or can see anything obviously wrong please feel free to send a comment. Its a learning process after all!
Mike - I continue to read your blog on a random basis. Today I was replacing the cam belt. Yesterday checking the valve clearances. I often refer to your notes to see if I have missed anything, or can learn from your experience. I find you notes & especially the associated picture, very useful. You made me think 'Should I replace the starter motor with a modern high torque model?' Not sure as the old, original starter still works. But It's good to see your experience.
ReplyDeleteSo 'Yes', please continue writing this blog.

Hi, I have been reading your very interesting and useful blog for months now. Just noticed your point about comments. I am an enthusiast who have for my sins 3 of these lovelies. Ever thought about collating and publishing your blog? Shall keep reading. By the way, can you let me know where you managed to get your clutch master cylinder please. Need to change this on two of the cars. Also is it necessary to change the slave when you change the master? Regards and many thanks, Nat
ReplyDeleteHi there. Glad you enjoy the blog and that my struggles turn out to be useful! I shopped around for the clutch mc. At that time the cheapest was listed on Amazon but that might not be true today. Try searching the applicn numbers (see blog) in google and see what turns up. Its a toyota part and cheaper from non-lotus suppliers.
ReplyDeleteYou dont have to change the slave but owing to its position it takes more abuse than the mc so may as well do it at the same time... after all its easier when the rest is off!
Incidentally I'm currently fitting the rover bmc and I'll post on that when the job's done. At the moment its decidedly parky here in the UK and I dont feel like working outside!!
Thank you Mike. I'll keep an eye on your blog.
